SPAR European Cross Country Championships 2016

Great sport in a spectacular setting.
The clock is ticking down to a great sporting event at Chia Laguna in Sardinia: 11th December sees the start of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships 2016.

Cross country running takes us back to the very origins of sport itself: nothing more than a route through the countryside and athletes competing in the simplest of ways.
The route and the characteristics of the natural setting are all part of the challenge: they shape it and determine its style, history and personality.

The territory and nature of Chia make it an authentic stage for the Championships rather than just a backdrop. Sardinia’s typically warm hospitality and its culinary traditions all go into guaranteeing a memorable stay for athletes, staff and spectators alike.

A total of 461 athletes (238 men and 223 women) will be taking part in this year’s Championships.
The event entails large-scale operations for Chia Laguna, with 170 specialists, managers and staff following the teams and around 630 accredited participants in all.

Athletes from 33 countries will be competing, with Great Britain, Ireland and Italy entering 6 full teams with 36 athletes. Up for grabs are 6 individual and 6 team titles (for men and women) in the Senior, under 23 and under 20 categories.

The Championships are set to be a truly great sporting event in the unforgettable Mediterranean surroundings of Chia.
